Making WFH work

Few of us ever thought that morning commutes would soon be a thing of the past. Or that face masks would come to be a coveted item, and homes would replace offices. But as COVID-19 spread, this is exactly what our reality has become.

Now, businesses need to find ways to remain agile and fast in the WFH era. In a time where teams are no longer in the office together. According to our survey Working from Home Amid COVID-19: A First Look at Emerging Team Challenges, preserving regular tiers of speed has become a fundamental challenge.

In a time when adaptability and pace are vital to success, digital teams and remote employees need to be able to deliver.

Work-From-Home challenges threaten speed & agility

Between all the confusion COVID-19 has created, your team’s progress hinges on every person’s capacity to perform. Business techniques might change, but the need to produce products and services remains.

Unfortunately, the sudden onset of social distancing requirements and the sudden transition to WFH complicated this. It has made it hard for many groups to meet the same standards for speed and agility.

We observed that nearly one-third of employees (31%) say WFH challenges stop them from maintaining speedy delivery.

When this is the case, group leaders need to figure out the sources of these difficulties. They also need to figure out how to get to the bottom of them.

Worse communication, excessive meetings, and collaboration challenges impede efficiency

WFH people cite a host of limitations that interfere with teamwork, waste time, and slow them down.

  • Over half of personnel (59%) stated they have had extra meetings since transitioning to WFH.
  • 40% of employees said transparency in projects, tasks, and development has decreased.
  • More than one-third (37%) said that taking part in initiatives and tasks has grown to be difficult.
  • Another 36% said their team’s capability to communicate while working from home is harder.
  • 29% of employees are much less engaged since transitioning to the WFH setting.
  • 20% say the feeling of accountability has declined whilst working from home.

So, how can team leaders address a variety of issues? The key is helping empower your team to thrive whilst working from home.

Things to prioritize while WFH

  • 50% stated that collaboration had become difficult as well as keeping up with the speed of work.
  • 49% said they feel less engaged and that it’s grown to be difficult to uphold the preferred tempo of work.
  • About 57% said accountability has lowered and that working from home reduces productivity.

Collaboration is the key ingredient

Collaboration is integral to high-quality teamwork. While everyone has their domain, goals, and KPIs, performance depends on every group member’s potential to work together.

When collaboration is effective, teammates can effortlessly share ideas and data. They can also provide updates, and pool resources. In the office, personnel share the same physical space. This facilitates communication and teamwork. In the WFH setting, people no longer have this luxury.

Teams that depend on proximity to guide collaboration have realized that this strategy is not appropriate for WFH. It doesn’t set employees up for success. Difficulty syncing on projects and sharing facts while working from home causes bottlenecks and knowledge gaps.

WFH: Collaboration

Only those that have a strong infrastructure to promote teamwork will be placed to maintain the velocity and productivity needed to succeed.

Highly engaged employees are more influenced whilst WFH

Today, preserving “business as usual” speed and fantastic work requires even higher motivation than before. Only personnel who are distinctly engaged will be poised to elevate the business performance.

Even when confronted with the challenges of working from home, engaged personnel attempt to do their best. They research to overcome boundaries and refuse to let them avoid their performance. Engaged personnel is additionally better at working independently and recognize why speed is a pinnacle priority.

The contrary additionally holds true. Employees who are disengaged are generally less stimulated to meet deadlines and uphold standards.

WFH: Engagement

If you prefer your team to have a speedy pace of work in the WFH setting, you’ll want to maintain a consistent pulse on engagement and take a proactive approach against its decline.

Employees who are accountable for their work produce better outcomes

When employees sense a robust sense of accountability and ownership over their work, they are intrinsically pushed to work harder. They will be dedicated to their role, proactive in collaborative projects, and encouraged to raise their performance.

Combined, these advantages contribute to a quicker speed of work and more agile mindsets in the face of change. But when accountability slips, the opposite effects occur.

A low level of accountability translates to a lack of motivation, indifference about meeting deadlines, and increased reluctance to embody adjustments that require additional work. When you have these troubles on your plate, you can expect slower strategies and worse outputs.

WFH: Accountability

In the WFH setting, it’s often a lack of transparency that triggers accountability to decline. When all contributors are in the office, it’s easier to look at every person’s effort, as nicely as the great of their outputs. But when the group is separated, there is much less visibility into every person’s everyday work. If personnel sense disconnected from the team, it will become more difficult to apprehend the price of their character contribution or the importance of maintaining a speedy tempo of work.

It’s difficult to authentically elevate another person’s experience of accountability, but you can motivate it with the proper approach. Giving your team the visibility and tools, they want to do their now far-flung job optimally can help make sure their level of possession doesn’t falter.

Empower your group to thrive whilst working from home

The COVID-19 pandemic has put normalcy on the shelf. While all of us are trying to find approaches to cope with our new reality and work from domestic jobs, corporations are challenged to hold their market share and redefine their brands inside an unwell economy.

Despite the difficulties of working from home, teamwork is extra necessary now than ever. Without it, staying fast, agile, and competitive will be impossible. Teams that focus on enhancing collaboration, engagement, and accountability will be positioned to deal with rising challenges with flexibility and ease. They will fare fantastic throughout the pandemic — and beyond.
